A wise statistician (who is also my friend and mentor) once told me (and a room full of other PhD students) that we should establish a virtual presence.   At the time, the idea of writing a blog was not on my radar. I enjoy reading others’ writing but hadn’t considered a blog as a medium to explore my ideas in a low risk context. He was wise but the busy-ness of academia kept this project lower on the list.

Now, a year later, I finally followed through with the suggestion.  Academia moves at a glacial pace. I knew I would get to it eventually.  The internet was not going anywhere (or it was going everywhere).  Either way, here I am starting a web log.

I plan to use this space to:

  1. write about my experience in academia, right now, as a PhD student
  2. abstract articles and explore my ideas about them
  3. document instructional strategies that I’ve attempted to implement
  4. write.
  5. write. more.

I have always liked experiments.
